Learning Curriculum
At the training events, you will gain in-depth instruction on the technical aspects of the Protection Response Tactics (PRT) curriculum. This includes mastering the techniques and understanding how to apply them effectively in real-world scenarios. For instructor candidates, the training goes a step further by delving into the foundational principles and reasoning behind each technique. This deeper understanding equips instructor candidates with the knowledge necessary to teach the system with clarity and confidence, ensuring they can explain the “why” as well as the “how” behind every tactic. The goal is to create skilled practitioners and well-rounded educators capable of passing on the system’s knowledge to others.
Teaching Tools
Alan has developed a specific and highly effective teaching methodology—an “Educational Process” from the Warriors Path Program meticulously designed to transform instructors into exceptional teachers. This process equips instructors with unique tools and strategies Alan has refined over four decades of teaching both in his academy and within professional industries. His experience includes serving as the Defensive Tactics (DT) instructor at the Executive Protection Institute for over 16 years, a role that has shaped his ability to teach at the highest levels of expertise.
Alan’s methodology goes beyond simply teaching techniques; it emphasizes cultivating a deeper understanding of instruction as an art form. He provides instructors with innovative tools and frameworks to enhance their teaching effectiveness, including methods for ingraining safety into every aspect of their instruction. His approach incorporates his comprehensive list of Universal Principles, which serve as a foundation for creating greater clarity and depth of understanding for students. By integrating these principles into their teaching, instructors can foster meaningful learning experiences that resonate with students and ensure they retain and apply the knowledge effectively.
This unique process is not just about passing on skills—it’s about creating confident, capable educators who inspire growth and excellence in their students.
Layered Learning Principle
Alan believes that true mastery in teaching extends beyond providing a student with a basic understanding of the human machine. To guide students toward a deeper and more comprehensive grasp of their capabilities, he emphasizes addressing multiple layers of development, what he calls the Principle of Layered Learning. His teaching focuses on the foundational “Fundamental Three” elements: Technique, Attributes, and Body State—each playing a critical role in developing well-rounded and capable practitioners.
- Technique: Alan ensures students understand the mechanics and precision of each movement or tactic. This involves not just how to execute a technique, but why it works, its application in various contexts, and how it integrates with the broader system.
- Attributes: Beyond technique, Alan stresses the importance of developing key attributes such as timing, position, projection, pattern recognition, and sensitivity. These attributes enhance a student’s ability to apply techniques effectively in dynamic, real-world scenarios. Alan incorporates progressive drills and exercises designed to sharpen these essential skills.
- Body State: Perhaps the most unique layer, Body State refers to cultivating the control of the body on a deeper level in relation to tension control, Breath control, projection and more
By integrating these layers, Alan’s approach ensures students not only learn techniques but also internalize them, building the resilience and adaptability necessary for true mastery. This method goes beyond surface-level training, equipping students with a holistic skill set that allows them to excel in both practice and real-world application.
Presenting And Communication
Alan’s training in presenting and communication focuses on empowering instructors to connect deeply with their audience while conveying authority, confidence, and clarity. Drawing from the Universal Laws, Alan’s methodology teaches how to master the voice as an instrument, leveraging techniques such as varying rate of speech, optimizing volume. He emphasizes breaking habitual patterns and building vocal confidence, ensuring instructors can project leadership and inspire their audience.
Alan integrates practical drills, such as articulation training and self-awareness exercises, to refine non-verbal communication. He also incorporates storytelling techniques to help instructors craft compelling narratives that captivate and resonate with their students, ensuring every message is impactful and memorable. Through this comprehensive approach, Alan equips instructors with the tools to deliver their content with precision and presence.
The Combat Blueprint
Martial arts and self-defense methods inherently carry the belief systems and philosophies of their creators and cultural origins, often ingraining these perspectives into students—sometimes without their conscious awareness. While these traditions offer valuable insights and techniques, they can also create mental frameworks that limit a practitioner’s ability to see beyond the prescribed methods. A true and honest study of combat requires stepping outside these ingrained thought patterns and examining the realities of the fighting encounter with objectivity. This approach allows practitioners to uncover their individual truth and develop solutions that are not only applicable but also adaptable to real-world situations.
The Combat Blueprint serves as an essential tool for this process. It provides a structured framework that encourages critical analysis of techniques, strategies, and principles, allowing practitioners to evaluate their effectiveness in various scenarios. By using the Combat Blueprint, gaps in knowledge and training can be identified, highlighting areas where further development is needed. This principle not only guides practitioners toward a deeper understanding of combat but also ensures that their training evolves based on reality rather than being confined by tradition or preconceived notions.
