Meet Alan Baker
For more than four decades, Alan Baker has dedicated his life to the study, development, and instruction of martial arts, defensive tactics, executive protection, and human performance.
Protection Response Tactics® is the result of that lifelong pursuit: a system built specifically for professionals responsible for protecting others in real-world environments.
Alan is not simply an instructor. He is a curriculum designer, coach, mentor, and training partner trusted by protection professionals, corporate security teams, tactical organizations, and instructors across the United States.
46+ years of continuous training and development brought together through one mission: helping professionals protect others with skill, judgment, and confidence.
Built To Solve A Problem In The Industry
Protection Response Tactics® was not created to be another martial arts program, weekend certification, or generic defensive tactics course. It was created because protection professionals needed something built specifically for the realities of their work.
Most Defensive Tactics Programs Were Never Built For Protection Work
For decades, protection professionals have been handed material borrowed from martial arts, law enforcement, military combatives, or sport-based systems.
The problem is that those systems were designed for different missions, different environments, different legal concerns, and different objectives.
In many cases, what is being sold as defensive tactics is simply repackaged martial arts. The difficulty is that many people do not have the background or reference points to recognize the difference.
That creates a serious problem for protection teams that need tactics that are professional, visually appropriate, legally defensible, and designed around protecting another person.
PRT Was Designed From The Ground Up For Protection Professionals
Protection Response Tactics® was built specifically for executive protection, corporate security, private security, and professionals responsible for protecting others.
The system is client-focused rather than self-focused. It addresses movement, positioning, de-escalation, control, restraint, vehicles, firearms considerations, environmental problems, and use-of-force decision making.
The goal is not simply to win a fight. The goal is to protect the client, control the situation, reduce unnecessary escalation, and make decisions that can stand up under scrutiny.
This is why PRT exists: to give protection professionals a system that matches the actual realities of their profession.
Protection professionals deserve a system designed specifically for their profession,
not recycled martial arts repackaged as defensive tactics.
More Than An Instructor.
A Curriculum Designer.
Many instructors teach techniques.
Alan Baker designs complete training systems.
For decades, organizations have trusted Alan to develop curriculum, establish standards, build instructor development programs, and create training systems designed around the realities of their personnel and operations.
His curriculum development work has supported executive protection teams, corporate security departments, vehicle dynamics programs, instructor development programs, and specialized tactical organizations throughout the United States.
The objective is simple: build training that works in the real world and continues working long after the instructor leaves.

A Lifetime Dedicated To Training & Development
For more than four decades, Alan Baker has devoted his life to studying, testing, teaching, and refining systems of martial arts, defensive tactics, executive protection, and human performance.
Certifications, titles, and awards matter.
Nothing replaces decades of consistent study, testing, teaching, and real-world application.
More Than Techniques
For more than four decades, Alan Baker has believed that training should do far more than teach physical skills.
Real training develops judgment, discipline, confidence, communication, resilience, leadership, and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Whether working with executive protection professionals, corporate security teams, instructors, law enforcement personnel, or martial artists, the objective remains the same:
To help people become more capable, more effective, and better prepared to serve and protect others.
Lifelong Learning
The pursuit of knowledge never ends. Growth comes from continual study, experience, and self-development.
Continuous Improvement
Always refining skills, systems, performance, and decision-making in pursuit of excellence.
Leadership Through Service
Helping others grow, develop, and succeed while creating stronger teams and organizations.
Responsibility & Protection
Using skill, judgment, and experience in service of others and the responsibilities entrusted to us.
The greatest value of training is not what it teaches you to do.
It is who it helps you become.
Beyond Techniques:
Developing Scholars
Most instruction focuses on the surface level. Students are shown techniques, run a few drills, and move on to the next class. While that approach creates activity, it rarely creates deep understanding.
My goal has always been different.
I believe training should help people become better learners, better problem solvers, and ultimately better educators. The objective is not simply to transfer information. The objective is to develop people who can continue learning, adapting, and growing long after the class is over.
Over the years, this led me to develop what I call the Layered Skill Development Principle.
Technique
The mechanics, leverage, positions, and execution of a movement. This is where most instruction begins and ends.
Attributes
Timing, sensitivity, pressure, speed, endurance, adaptability, and the ability to apply skill under resistance.
Body State
Posture, breathing, structure, expansion, tension management, and the physical organization of the body.
Mind State
Awareness, perception, decision-making, intent, focus, and the ability to perform under pressure.
There is a difference between a student and a scholar.
A student waits to be taught. A scholar learns how to learn.
Four Decades Of Study, Teaching, And Development
The journey that eventually led to the creation of Protection Response Tactics® did not happen overnight. It was built through decades of study, teaching, testing, coaching, curriculum development, and real-world experience.
From martial arts instructor to curriculum designer, executive protection educator, consultant, author, and mentor, Alan Baker has dedicated his life to helping people develop skills that work under pressure and continue serving them for a lifetime.
Organizations & Industry Impact
Throughout his career, Alan Baker has provided curriculum development, instructor education, executive protection training, defensive tactics programs, and long-term consulting services for organizations across multiple industries.
While organizations, industries, and missions may differ,
the objective remains the same: develop capable professionals who can perform under pressure and protect others effectively.
